Back In The Saddle

Refreshed and ready to rock
2

After a small hiatus for the month of July, I am back on the mic to bring you a refreshed view of where I stand today along with the direction I want to take WSG over the next couple of months.

It isn’t much of a significant change. I miss podcasting and so I plan on making more time for it.

This journey for myself started back in January when I set out with the simple intent of sharing more of my investing work in public. Since then I have published a few deep dives and seen articles around companies. The format of the content is still n a fluid state as I continue to experiment with what works best for me while also delivering as much value as I can for you. This is why I have picked the mic back up.

When I was writing out long deep dives, like this one on Netflix, they would eat up an entire week of work, and turns out there was WAY more interest in the 2-3 page article I would put together than in the 50 pg research report.

This style of writing also caused me to spend more time crafting prose than trying to learn and this feeling didn’t sit right with me.

Whenever I feel like I am beginning to say more than I am consuming it fills me with imposter syndrome and the only way I know how to combat it is to get back into the Ks, Qs, and transcripts. Which is where I have been spending quite a bit of time over the past month.

When I first set out on this journey I had a mentor tell me to focus on writing punch pieces that were of enormous value and return on time for the reader. He also directed me to leave the longer posts alone but alas I didn’t listen. I spent hours a week crafting huge reports and editing lines that were likely to be passed over in consumption. After doing about 6 of these it got to be too much and I eventually ended up where he directed me to focus on from the start. We live and learn.

My goal has always been to add value and I think bringing podcasting along with this writing journey will help me continue to push towards the goal. I also have a ton of fun doing it so it’s a guilty pleasure of mine.

If you are a follower today, thank you so much for subscribing and I couldn’t be more excited to share with you the thoughts that have been floating around in the back of my head for the last month.

Let’s keep this🚂 rolling!

-Michael
